Sunset Tuscany

Tuscan Sunset, Watercolour

January 28, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

I thought I’d show you this painting ‘Sunset Tuscany‘ which is in the ‘Tuscany’ group of watercolours in my current exhibition. I was standing on the top of the ancient stone parapet, next to the church in the little village of Chianni. This really is high, as being a hilltop village they were designed with a good clear view all around, just in case those rotters from the next village tried to pop over uninvited. Anyway, while the others were […]

Paris Watercolours for Exhibition

January 25, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

I will be exhibiting a series of  small watercolours all painted while I spent a few weeks in Paris last year, woops the year before. Because I had a little longer there than most of my visits, I tried to learn my way about a little more. So out I went each morning with a plan in mind of where I would go. Then try hard not to get lost. Of course I did every so often, but I didn’t […]

Across Bondi to the North

Paintings from Eastern Suburbs

January 21, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

There are several paintings I’ve done for card ranges in the Bondi area. These first two are larger than the size I tend to paint now, but they certainly capture the vast spread of beach and water that is Bondi. The Bondi that is so iconic of Sydney. I was keen to paint the other beaches along the same coast, and in the show will be one for Tamarama Beach. It is a perfect picnic spot with its sheltered grassed […]

Selected Greek Isles Paintings

January 18, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Before I begin- it’s now 2012 and both these paintings are available. These paintings are both from that Greek Isles Isles trip I thought wasn’t that long ago. However, on checking my diary – surprise surprise – I was there in May 2002. I had my last exhibition after that wonderful adventure, so many paintings have been waiting patiently in a drawer for their turn to be shown, Well the wait is almost over. We had 3 weeks around the […]

Tuscany Painting in Exhibition

January 17, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

I have created groups of work for the exhibition, according to which country they were painted in, and then the regions. The painting trip I was on last year was through Italy – Tuscany first then on to Umbria. Several works from this trip are in the show. Luckily  I’d thought to take this photo. Honestly, I wish I did this more. Most of the time it seems everybody else is in the shots, but try and find one with […]

Steve Capper to Open Exhibition

January 16, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

I have now painted 13 originals in the village of Trausse Minervois (30 mins from Carcassonne, 90mins from Toulouse. ) It seems so appropriate to have Marilyn and Steve as guests, and Steve to do the honours for my 2010 February to March exhibition at The Bathers Pavilion, Balmoral Beach. So many of my paintings over the years have been done for them. Luckily I have just a few small paintings available for the show. Make sure you meet them […]

The Exhibition Is looming

January 16, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

I should be getting anxious, but  a sense of exhilaration is coming over me instead.  This is going to be quite a show. The exhibition space itself is a lovely airy 30′s style building ,and really was the old changing sheds many long years ago. Nowdays it’s an award winning restaurant and cafe, with the most wonderful upstairs areas for special occasions. This is the area I’m so thrilled to be showing my work in. When I was at Julian […]

Paintings in Exhibition

January 16, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

I am really pleased with the 2 paintings in this ‘Sydney’ series. Well, there are many others, but these are a pair. The cards are great sellers. I will start getting bold and say  ’Yes it is for sale’  In fact I will even talk money.  Au $550 each. There. I did it. That is about the mid price I’ll be selling at. This was painted recently from reference taken when Nicky and Adrian stayed at  Shang-ri-la hotel, the night […]

New Snow and Squirrel

Snow Sketches with Watercolour

January 4, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

For the time we have been in this snow setting, my eye has been taking in all it can to do with contrast. That’s one of the biggest most obvious things with snow. But the objects which seem dark in contrast are much less so than one thinks. I have 2 sketches done so far and now I’m getting some colour washed into them to see how they work. I felt reasonably happy with my first efforts. There were squirrels […]
