Milo the Cat at Monet's Garden

Milo the Cat at Monet’s Garden

June 25, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Milo likes to get about. I realised he must have followed us onto the train to Vernon, then got himself to Monet’s Garden on the bus that takes you to the village. He must have loved the peace and quiet of no other visitors, when we painters were there by special arrangement. We had just one hour so I wouldn’t have noticed a thing except my pad and pen working at lightening speed. The feeling was pure joy to be […]

The old Iron bed, Trausse

Painted in Southern France

June 18, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Painted on location in Southern France. 300gsm A3 size. The 2 line drawings I showed the other day were the working drawings I did from the doorway of the Summer Kitchen. In the end I decided on the old iron bed with the 2 periwinkle blue doors behind. My heart just soars when I see this perfect little French setting, the sun high and hot in a clear blue sky and happy chirps breaking the silence. So i have finally […]

La Remise Chez Capper

Stone Cottages of Trausse

June 17, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

This is about it. Last of the drawings but not of two paintings I’ve yet to show. Both in the Summer Kitchen Garden and in my newer look. La Remise is where Marilyn and Steve live for half the year. Summer in France, and summer in Australia. Nice way to have it. This was the old barn and is now a gorgeous home where they work, looking after their 3 stone cottages and the people staying, plus entertain their myriad […]

The Importance of Being from Somewhere Else

June 15, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

This is just fabulous. Here we are being photographed in Chantal’s garden and this appeared in the local paper this week. As I’d said earlier, the idea of Jackie bringing overseas painters to their village is giving the locals a real sense of pride. If this happened in our own backyard it wouldn’t make a ripple at all. So we are almost famous. Left to right – Connie, Glenys, Erin, Karen, Niki, Ellen, Nancy and Jackie ( with Paloma the […]

Vival Supermarche & Vide Grenier

Vide Grenier (Clear out your Attic)

June 14, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Normally the little main street of Trausse is quiet. People would be getting their bits and pieces and baguettes from the only supermarche in town, passing and greeting one another in the polite way of the French. Today was Vide Grenier and everyone was excited. A yearly chance to empty out the attic and a chance pick up someone else’s unwanted treasures. The main street was bursting with stalls the whole way along. An unbelievable sight. Marilyn and Steve were […]

From the doorway of Summer Kitchen

Finally to Trausse-Minervois

June 13, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

It was soooo good to arrive in Trausse again. Quick Easyjet to Toulousse, grab the rental and 1 1/2 hrs later we pull into the village parking under the plane trees, where those pesky birds plan to decorate our polished Renault. It felt like coming home. Thankfully Marilyn and Steve had dinner ready so we dropped our bags in the Summer Kitchen and  hurried along the stoney pathway past all the full bloom roses, and upstairs to join the others, […]

Milo in his Paris Apartment

Milo the Cat in his Paris Apartment

June 12, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

I have shown this before, but not with the most important element – Milo the cat. It was during the night that I suddenly realised he should be there, since we’d been to feed him while his owner was away. Now this is one of those superb rooftop apartments which was once relegated to the housemaid, but which are now so sought after. Only certain cats and people can have this lifestyle. Firstly you have to remember where all the […]

Starbucks, Paris

Romantic Paris

June 11, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Well I can get to the romantic bit in a minute! Actually Paris does live up to it’s reputation and the love of my life and moi, were on the Champ Elyses where every tourist checks out Louis Vuitton, and apart from our daughter Joanna who happens to work there, and we would meet at lunch, not many others are locals. Milton and I of course are not tourists! OK, so we happened across Starbucks and joined the mob to […]

The Old Prison, Annecy

The Old Prison, Annecy

June 9, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Located in the Haute-Savoie region of France, Annecy is the French showpiece of lakes and mountain beauty, and there is also a canal. Our painting choices were unlimited, narrow medieval streets, lakes and boating, mountains, the ancient prison with the canal going either side, plus it was Market day. This all brought on a need for a coffee infusion, so of course one can make better decisions about what to paint after that. Today felt like a drawing day. That […]
