New Milo the Cat Drawings

Milo the Cat in Paris – The Sketches

July 28, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

These are the sketches of Milo in different positions. I have a few photos taken the day we visited his loft apartment in Paris so that was of great help. He is quite a ‘grand chat’ so I’m trying to show his true proportions! These are the sketches shown in the 8 ‘Milo the Cat in Paris’ series. Come join us in Paris on our Travel Sketching week, and learn to create your own sketch journal of  special places and […]

Amelie Guards the Studio

July 26, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Things are making progress. Yesterday I painted the grey wall white – 1st coat. The picture hanging system is coming on Tuesday, so getting the walls ready was a good thing to do on a Sunday.  The bench top is being made so should be here soon. Cardboard cartons are my saviour. Today was sunny and cheerful so everything looked welcoming for our good friends Dale and Gilly and Yvonne. They seemed suitably impressed and even spent $ on cards […]

Watercolour/Acrylic Experiment

July 25, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

I wanted to get painting as soon as I returned from the last overseas trips to France and Italy. It’s great to get home but one worries that everything you’ve learned might somehow be forgotten now that you are back in familiar territory. I grabbed the watercolour 300gsm block, which is what I paint on mostly, and decided to paint the view from our windows. The sun was getting low so this would be perfect for putting on some soft […]

My Old Paint Palette

Faithful Paint Palette

July 23, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

I was using this palette today on a watercolour commission. I have to see if they still make them like this. Glenys gave it to me in 1990. I loved it then and still do. But before It travelled with me recently, I had to tape all round the outside edges, to stop it leaking when I have washes in the lid. Seems to be working so far. You can see the cracks in the pic. I rarely clean the […]

Studio Takes Shape

July 16, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

I just love it already. No running water yet. No shelving or storage yet. No work tables yet.  Nothing on the walls yet. All coming soon. However the important thing was to establish that this studio is taking shape. There are paintings on easels in the window and a box of  greeting cards. This establishes what I do. The windows have been cleaned and I’ve polished up the dull old brass door handle and street numbers. But the coffee is […]

My New Studio

July 11, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Things have been happening. Since returning from France and Italy I have realised that I want a place to paint in, spread out, walk away. leave paints where they are, paint early, paint late…… etc. I’ve always had space for all this in the houses we’ve lived in. But then we downsized to our gorgeous townhouse by the harbour. That has been fine for smaller works but now I want to go bigger and messier and explore other mediums and […]

No Surf today

No Surf Today

July 4, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Back to Sydney. Went walking around Manly on my first days back home. This is a fairly well-known surf beach and you’ll see surfers out here all year round. But this day was a different story. Lots of blue skies and aqua water – but what happened to the waves? The kayaks were very happy though. For once they could launch from the beach and not end up clinging to the boat before they even started. The people sitting on […]
