Tandem Surfing

Sketching at the Beach

November 26, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Now this was really something. As part of the Surfing Festival there was a tandem surfing event. So there we are down on the sand, and sure enough a girl is standing on a chaps shoulders, in a white tutu, while he surfs in. How’bout that. Can you see them there? Oh I forgot to put the white tutu on the girl, but you get the idea. The other couple were next to go, and there they are […]

Two Kombi Vans

Kombi Van Rally.

November 22, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Sketch Club was coming all the way to my patch – for the Kombi Rally and Surfing Carnival – at Manly this weekend. I usually like to be in the Studio on Saturdays, but this was too tempting. Not that I was sure drawing vehicles was really my bag, but the team would be, so I really had to. The crowds felt a bit like the Sculpture weekend ones, people absolutely everywhere., and hot. Luckily our organiser is […]

That Crazy Sailboarder

That Crazy Sailboarder

November 19, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

I could hear the wind when I woke. I looked out the window at a wild and wooley day. And there he was. Skitting across the waves at break neck speed. I had to laugh though. I’m sitting here with my morning cuppa tea, and he’s out there getting the thrill of his life. It’s 6.10am. On closer inspection I see the Friday kayak group also out there. Looks like a battle. Normally they are nicely in tandem, and you […]

More from Sketch Club

November 16, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Ok, I knew you’d be busting to see the other ‘Sculptures by the Sea’ sketches. Da daaah, here they are. Anyway I’m glad I  had the opportunity to draw even a few of these wonderful creations, as they will all be gone by now. But where will they be gone to?  Where does one put a spare sculpture? Do you just pretend it wasn’t yours and don’t pickup?  Leave it on the nature strip? Under the bed? Anyone […]

Sketch Club – Sculpture by the Sea

November 14, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

My first Sketch Club meet up. I’ve been very keen to sketch with others since my last painting trip. Found this gorgeous group of like-minded souls on Google, right here in my own backyard – sort of. Actually discovered I could join a group in Paris or San Francisco or anywhere, through the Meetup website. Anyway, we met at Tamarama Beach and drew as many of the 117 sculptures as possible,  placed between here and Bondi Beach, before lunch, and […]

Completed 'On the Seine' Acrylic

Eiffel, Notre Dame and Seine – final version

November 14, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

When I walked into the studio on Saturday morning, I decided this needed just a touch more work. I should say again that this painting is based on the very popular little sketch, ‘Eiffel Tour, Notre dame and the Seine. I’ve been in New Zealand for a week, and have some sketches yet to post, but wanted to tidy up the ‘Seine’ painting and get it on the wall. If it’s signed and on the wall – it’s done. No […]

The Suits at Coffee

The Suits at Coffee

November 12, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Wellington New Zealand. Thursday Nov 4. 10am at Pravda. Just here for a few days to catch up with our gorgeous families – on both sides. AAAahhhh. But first on the agenda were Milton’s meetings. Good planning to drop him off at my coffee time, find a park ( you always can in Wellington) and head for one of my favourite cafes. Pravda on Customhouse Quay. At this point I should say that my little cousin used to […]

On the Seine, Paris

On the Seine, Paris

November 2, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

I wanted to see how well my travel sketches convert to a painting. So I took the ‘Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Seine’ drawing and began an acrylic. This is on gessoed 300gsm paper. I still have a few of these to use, and as I didn’t know what I was doing, seemed safer to go this way. Began with a charcoal indication of where the main areas should be.Decided then to base the colours pretty much […]
