NYE Excitement

New Year’s Eve Excitement

December 31, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Any minute now, the barge should arrive with tonight’s fireworks on board. The boats have been gathering and jostling for position since last night. The weather is perfect and everyone sleeping on board would have been gently rocked to sleep, ready for the anticipation of the first of the world’s NYE fireworks displays. We happen to be ahead of the rest of the Globe you know. Apart from New Zealand. This is one of the barges which co-ordinate […]

Manly and Shelley Beaches

Manly and Shelley Beaches

December 29, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Pen over acrylic layers. 30 X 20 inches. This is a view I keep coming back to. I wanted to experiment with layers of acrylic on 300gsm paper and then draw in black line. I tend to go with a scene I’m familiar with when trying out stuff.  So I started this before Christmas, and worked a little at a time when I could be in the Studio. I’m trying to think where I want to head with my work […]

Summer Breakfast

The Best Breakfast

December 28, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

I’ve always loved breakfast. Of all the meals in a day, this is the one that appeals the most. In fact I even put the bowls out the night before and line up the fruit to be prepared on the chopping board. I prefer it’s not been in the fridge. Next morning, I take the dog for a good walk and when we get back we both have breakfast. Milton has his when he surfaces, and I know […]

Rain Clouds

Rain Clouds

December 27, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Day after Boxing Day. At least I can see across the harbour right now, but 10 minutes ago – white out!  In fact when I started the drawing I could see everything quite well, but had to stop when misty rain kept washing any tad of colour out completely. But this hasn’t stopped the ParaSail boat taking people out and launching them way up into the sky. Off they go up up up, and just to make sure they are […]

November Lilies on Christmas Day

Christmas sketch

December 26, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

A quiet moment at sunset on Christmas Day.  A moment to draw whatever was in front of me from where I had collapsed. I’d had an idea about sketching the food as it was presented to our eager family – but somehow when you are hosting the occasion, that moment to step away and put pen to paper is not available. By this time , we’d had the Christmas Eve dinner at Balmain the previous night. We’d been […]

Chocolate as Art

Chocolate as Art

December 21, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Today was a wonderful day. Two important things happened. 1•  Joanna & Olivier arrived all the way from snowy Paris.    2•  They brought chocolate. You could be forgiven for thinking that we in the colonies don’t get chocolate. We do but not quite the fine choice that came today. Joanna had been in Brussels on a ‘girls weekend’  and buzzed around some of the best chocolatiers there are. Of course her every thought was to bring a […]

The most Glorious Advent Calendar

The Most Glorious Advent Calendar

December 19, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

I have been a Jacquie Lawson fan for ages. Someone sent me a ‘Thank you’ using one based on Van Gogh’s sunflowers, and I fell in love with them and immediately subscribed. This year I sent her Advent Calendar to the littlies in our family, and they are captivated. Our 3 year granddaughter  Anna, had been given one with a chocolate for each day – and she immediately eat the lot!!  This one cannot be eaten and each day is […]

Squirrel in the Snow

Snow Sketches from Downunder

December 13, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

I have decided to do my ‘Snow’ series of sketches, because I’m constantly amazed how many searches there are on my site for this subject. And – because the snow on my posts looks great on these! For me of course, this is the summer. Hot days, sunburn, balmy evenings, far too many parties. And we have Oprah! How’bout that. What more could you ask for! We were in Tahoe this time last year, and I began a few drawings to […]

What Did I love About This Week

December 12, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Amy on God I Love Paris made this one of her subjects this week, and she asked others what they loved about their week. *Snow falling over my Art+travel journal posts, on 30 degree days. *Looking out in the morning to see what the day is like, the morning air and the aroma of summer flowers. Gardenia, Jasmine, Hoya, all blooming at the moment. *Walking Amelie early, along the pathway above the water and looking down at my favourite spot […]
