Gilly spies some action

Gilly Spies Some Action

January 30, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

This was fabulous. There had been a few ‘goings-on’ out on the harbour the previous night. Dale & Gilly, Milton & I had sat on the balcony having a last drink before bed – when somebody – we think on the beach beyond – was having a dramatic moment. ‘Love you babe’ were words being screamed out across the water many times. However ‘Babe’ didn’t seem to be answering too often. Oh the stories we came up with. We decided […]

Classic Oz Day Group

Sketch Club – Oz Day Picnic

January 27, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

Loved this big guy, beer in hand, loudly giving his mates his opinion on everything. Probably about Not changing the flag design – big issue here – because what would we all wear next Australia Day. Not that any of them were taking any notice. Everyone is checking out the goings-on somewhere else. ‘Ave another beer mate. More sketches to come,  I’ll try to hurry. No Sketch Club this weekend so I’ll get a minute then. She’ll be right. Yes we […]

Vintage Car Rally

Oz Day Vintage Car Rally

January 26, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

Wednesday is a funny day for a Public Holiday. The 26th January happened to be Wednesday, and therefore Australia Day. So we all had the day off. However you do not lie about in bed. You are up and off to the nearest beach for a sausage sizzle. It’s vital to wear and apply to yourself anything that has the Oz flag on it. You picnic on Oz rugs, sit on Oz beach chairs, eat from flag decorated picnic wear […]

Borromini Bear at Manly

The 3rd of my International Sketchcrawl drawings

January 24, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

I do draw quickly so to stop and put the colour on sometimes doesn’t happen if I’m in an awkward place, and need a third hand. Mostly I do it at the time, if I have somewhere to put my little water jar. Otherwise I improvise later. As one does. By now the International Sketchcrawlers will have done their sketches and we will be seeing them at any moment. The variety will be most interesting, if it’s anything like our […]

Another Day, another International Sketch

January 23, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

I like this side of Manly Wharf. Manly Cove and it could be a million miles from the city. It’s half an hour by ferry. Sketch Club members also liked it. Many of them could be found concentrating over their notebooks, which brought a smile to the faces of many a passerby. Such a long esplanade, great sand and the water is so aqua and turquoise and green and blue – and sparkly. And that pink edge where the sand […]

International Sketchcrawl Day

January 22, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

This was the day when International Sketchcrawl members would draw and sketch wherever they live around the globe. The Sydney Sketch Club decided to make it an event and Manly was chosen as the venue. Great for me as I only had to roll out of bed and be there at 10am. I did that perfectly. Alissa was coordinator today and 17 people all met at the Cafe where the ferry comes in to have a day in the sun. […]

Darling Harbour from Cockle Bay

More from Sketch Club

January 17, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

The second sketch was actually my first – if you get my drift. However it made more sense to show the big vista and you can then see where the Brolga Fountain is.  Cos I just know you wanted to know!!! By the way, that is not a Jet Fighter flying past. Just a little ol’ Qantas jet, but my pen got a bit excited and I forgot my seagulls. It’s been fantastic seeing the results from the other Sketchers […]

Sketch Club at Cockle Bay

January 16, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

At 4pm sharp, the 16 enthusiastic Sketch Club’ members showed up one by one at the arranged spot. Meet by the Brolga Fountain instructed Jennifer. Luckily it was a sunset sketch as the humidity even at this time was unbelievable. Everything sticks to you and there’s no way to cool down – that was us. But being made of stern stuff we focussed on the job at hand – to make some sense of this complicated venue, one of Sydney’s […]

Cruel Water

Cruel Water

January 11, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

This is Queensland. Three quarters of the state is now a disaster zone. The worst flooding in living memory. The pictures are horrifying. Raging water carrying trees, houses, cars, at breakneck speed. Pictures of people desperately trying to cross swirling water. Grabbing onto trees. Isolated on rooftops. Stranded cattle. Snakes wrapped around poles. Goannas clinging to fence posts. Kangaroos atop patches of grassland. Baby possums clinging hopelessly to branches. Some of this I have tried to record. The water I look […]
