Sketch Club does Govt House

Sketch Club at Govt. House

March 29, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

It’s amazing how fast you draw when there’s a time limit. The rain stopped and I decided to leave my basket chair on the wide slate verandah of Government House, and find another spot, before the skies opened again. As in Paris, you cannot walk on the grass around the Govt House Gardens. Mmmm. That’s hard for me. I’m used to grass you walk on, not look at.  However, I contained myself, and sat on a low wall looking back […]

Govt House in the Rain

March 27, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

Sketch Club in the rain. Who cares. I’d been looking forward to going again to the Royal Botanical Gardens and finding the views I didn’t have time for the first week. Took the ferry to the city and walked past the Opera house to the gardens. As it turned out the organisers decided we should all go to Government House and sketch from the wide verandahs. If it rained we’d be sheltered. And rain it did. This was a pretty […]

Sketchclub Afternoon Tea

Afternoon Tea at the Gardens

March 23, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

The Royal Botanical Gardens whatsmore. You might think it’s all about plants with latin names,  odd cacti and duckponds, but that simply isn’t so. The centre of the Gardens – Royal – don’t forget, has a wonderful old building housing the main restaurant. This is where we were having our special afternoon tea after Sketch Club. This is a feature for the whole 6 weeks while Garden Sketchabout is on. The staff brought the 3 level display centrepice and placed […]

Birthday Morning

A Birthday with my Breakfast

March 17, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

How romantic is that! How clever that I didn’t see anything last night. There on the table this morning were the yellow roses, pop-up ‘rose in a box’ card, my favourite Whittaker’s choc , a card from my lovely cousin- and in a tiny box – a little something special. It all looked gorgeous and I felt very special. Somehow a drawing was essential. But gotta go now, I’m busting to eat my bowl of goodies. I will have a […]

The Gardens & The City

The Gardens & The City

March 16, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

Again the Ibis is there. Two little water hens were pecking around, and keeping a beady eye on him. They can run quite fast I noticed when Mr Ibis gives them the evil eye. This was a great spot for looking at a whole layer of things. I was on the way back towards the Band Lawn where the group would later meet, and there was about enough time – say 20 mins at most – to draw something else. […]

The Tide Comes In

The Tide Comes In

March 15, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

I am very fond of soft edged and pale colours at the moment. Awhile back I did some mixed media with texture colour and stencils. These I felt were a step on the way to something else, but not sure what. I took this 20 X 24” canvas the other day and gessoed it top to bottom. One of my sketches of rocks and water kept stopping me whenever I flipped past it. I liked the composition – a good […]

Sketch Club at Botanical Gardens

Saturday Sketch Club

March 13, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

You really cannot draw in the Royal Botanical Gardens and not put in the Ibis. They do look pretty fierce and I once saw one destroy a sparrow – however all the creatures here are rather used to sharing the space with people. I took no notice as several Ibis strutted past, and kept on going. All doing our own thing. In fact it was the inaugural Royal Botanical Gardens Sketchabout. Anybody at all can come for the next 6 […]

Tuesday Morning, Warriewood Beach

Tuesday Morning, Warriewood Beach

March 11, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

Tuesday was a really gorgeous day for visiting a beachside client. When I arrived you’d think everyone was on holiday. Both cafes were doing brisk business and I promised myself a coffee very soon. It was Gillian at ’3 Spring Flowers’ who had asked to see the ranges. I really have a lot of Northern Beaches cards, but we both agreed that the French sketches and Milo the Cat would go well in that little enclave too. So after a […]

Boutiques, Kurrajong

Kurrajong Boutiques

March 9, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

These old cottages make me think of two sisters, one outgoing with a big personality. The other more conservative and prim. Both vying for attention in their own way. One is bright purple and has masses of flowers tumbling out onto the pavement in a riot of colour. Flowers and plants is their business so that makes sense. However right beside it is Carey & Co. Very stylish, very restrained. Low key colours and details picked out in a tasteful […]
