White Daisies French Window

White Daisies, French Window

September 30, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

I actually have a painting partly done, which has been abandoned in my excitement at producing these textured canvas decoratives. Now there three. No longer hidden away unresolved. Now transformed. Very colourful. Very simple compositions. Seem to be working well and a style I’m enjoying. I just have a watercolour to do of St Roch Garden in Trausse. This one from my reference. Then back to the abandoned sea and rocks acrylic.  Maybe then some changes to two other paintings […]

Blue Anenomes, French Window

Blue Anenomes, French Window

September 28, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

The second wrinkly textured canvas has been completed. They seem to happening more easily now that I have some ideas in my head about the style I want. Definitely liking the French influence as well as creating a view into the painting. The two look quite good together too. Yellow Daisies and Blue Anenomes. Still a third canvas coming up for it’s turn – that’s going to be a Balmoral one. You can see I’m beginning to pay attention to […]

Very tiny & compact watercolour set

Tiny Travel Watercolour Set

September 26, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

This shows a similar travel size watercolour set to mine, which I’m so passionate about – which I bought in San Francisco a year or so back. If I’d had a spare minute I’d have sketched this one for you. Please forgive me in my excitement. A mere photo! I hadn’t seen any as small in Australia, but had seen larger ones at outrageous amounts. So when people asked where to get one like mine, I felt I should find […]

Little Boy on P&O about 1950

Waiting for the long P&O journey

September 25, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

What good day we had.  Meetup at The Maritime Museum for Sketchclub.  Inside or out. Whenever we’ve had Sketchclub here it’s been sunny, said Alissa in her blurb. Well guess what.  Not today!  On Friday it was 33 degrees. Today a wet and cold 13. But you know what we Sketchers are like. Rain hail or shine there we are. At least 10 or more of us! Inside was ‘Scott’s Last Expedition’ exhibition which was wonderful, although that wasn’t what I […]

Yellow Daisies

Yellow Daisies – a decorative acrylic

September 24, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

A little bit French. But of course. If you think you’ve seen this painting from me before – well you have –  and you haven’t! This is a textured canvas I’d created when I first had a go at some mixed media acrylics awhile back. Since then it’s probably had at least 5 paintings on top of the first one. Can you believe I’d done 3 of these very textured canvases!  I simply couldn’t feel happy with any of them, […]

5 Minute ‘People’ Sketches

September 23, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

We were sketching at Ivanhoe Park. Much cooler there on this hot day. Everyone was deeply absorbed, and because I’d given a time limit of 5 -10 minutes per sketch and move on, I took my own advice and sketched the Sketchers – 5 minutes each. Here are a few. It’s a good exercise anyway. The colour went on later and that can become part of the sketch – using the paintbrush to ad extra lines. This will be one […]

Welcome to Hotel D'Alibert

Bienvenue au d’ Alibert D’Hotel

September 21, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

I am supposed be to thinking ‘Balmoral’, now that the exhibition is over. But my head is in South of France. All because I’m back there next September – and planning to take a few artists with me. Because it will essentially  be a sketching trip about the food and wine of the Minervois (Languedoc) – with some history thrown in – I’m thinking about the night we will dine at one of my favourite restaurants around the area, Hotel D’Alibert. […]

The 6am Ferry

The 6am Ferry

September 19, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

I must be getting up early these mornings! Perhaps because it’s light by 6am, and I’m seeing some glorious sunrises out the window as I head towards my ‘must have’ cuppa tea. I don’t function till I have that! Loved this one, being so soft and pale. Just a few lines and a wash of gentle colours and there it was. I might need some early nights with all this excitement in the mornings! ©ErinHill2011

Sunrise, Walkway to Manly

Sunrise Sketch & Sunday Sketch group

September 18, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

Did a quick sketch on Friday, to show the class on Sunday. If you know your location and have good reference, it CAN work to sketch from. Here was a 5.40am sunrise recently which was sooooo beautiful. I do prefer sketches are done in that moment of course, but somehow in my pj’s , cup of tea in hand and sans sketchbook – the camera was the best I could do. It happens. By sketching in the bones of it […]
