Tuesday July 31st. Books & Buildings

July 31, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

TUESDAY JULY 31ST. We did stacked up books today, as a way of learning perspective. One has much to consider with these setups. It matters if things are lining up actually. If you observe where one book cuts in behind or in front of another, like pieces of a puzzle, then you will have a very pleasing sketch. You can see how differently each person approaches their subject, and all of them work. Then because it was a fine day […]

1 Almond, 2 Blueberry Friands

Sketch then Taste. Cake Sketching

July 30, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

I’m doing a bit more food & wine sketching these days. On this particular day I sat in the sun at a beachside cafe and ordered 2 friands. Love them. Nice size. Not too sweet. Oh and a fab coffee. I had planned to sketch them. I was taking my caffein hit as I observed these 2 little golden friands sitting on a plate enjoying the sun. First was the blueberry one, then the almond, but hang on – 2 […]

Friday Fruit & Veg Still Life

Friday July 27. Arcade Sketching.

July 28, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

What a gorgeous day for 2 new people to discover the joys of Travel Sketching. Our regulars got to do the veggies with dutch carrots, while the other table was for the people beginning this wonderful journey. Mind you for one ‘veggie sketcher’ this was only her second class, so you can see how quickly she’s picked this up. We used watercolour pencil and waterpen for colouring. Then down the hill to Roycroft Arcade for our ‘Out & About’ part […]

Sketching in the Arcade

Thursday July 26th. Arcade Sketching Fruit & Veggies

July 26, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

Thursday’s Class was being challenged today. A fruit and veggie still life, both to be sketched and colour applied in one hour. If you are travelling, (and 2 of the girls are about to), you’d be lucky to even get that long. So this was us, imagining we were in Rome or Athens or Tibet, just sketching something quickly which sums up the feel of where we are. We are off to a local arcade, where we were planning a sketch of a […]

Veggie Still life

Sketch Class Tuesday July 24. Fruit & Veg still life on a soggy day

July 24, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

It was indeed a soggy ol’ day this Tuesday July 24. Not that we could give a raspberry, or a grape or a fig for that matter. Inside the Studio is bright and even feels sunny, so we all were happy to knuckle down to the first sketches for this new class. We were also pleased to welcome Jennifer from Sydney Sketchclub, who happened to have a day available to come and be with our class. She managed beautifully without […]

Friday Class July 20. Fruit, Flowers & Cafe Sketches

July 20, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

The first Friday class and a beautiful day. Not as chilly as yesterday so we could leave our jackets in the Studio. The still life was similar to Thursday’s class on one table, and all fruit on the other. This was Leonie’s first class and she bravely launched in and did a great first sketch in no time. Margaret was new to our regular classes having had private lessons with me before, so she also was happy to set a […]

Flower & Fruit still life

Thursday Class July 19. Still Life & Cakes

July 20, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

Flower & Fruit still life Eyeing the Adriano Zumbo cake display Just a few offerings for you Thursday July 19 ’12 First day of term and everyone was happy to be back for some sketching together again. A rather chilly day though. Decided to do a bright flower setup with some fruit as we were welcoming Penny today, and that’s a bit of fun to get started on. In fact her sketch was lovely. I think she was a little […]

International Sketchcrawl Sydney

July 15, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

I don’t very often get pictures of myself sketching. It’s usually me on the end of the camera, so thank you Jennifer from Sydney Sketchclub. That’s Elaine from class there too. Jenny was somewhere nearby and Ethna wasn’t well so hope she sees this. It’s so lovely that some of our class feel they can now go sketching with the best. Alissa was there  - who came sketching toys with the class and shared her talents that day recently. I […]

Find out about Travel Sketch Classes – no experience needed – click here. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> THURSDAY JULY 5 We were on Term Holidays so some of us decided to have a little ‘culture’ and visit the MCA and see part of the Biennale, plus selected Australian Contemporary painters. One of the very first installations we were keen to see was ‘The Mending Project’ with hundreds of giant […]
