Thursday September 20 ’12
This is our last Thursday for the term, and we finished with a bang.
Decided to have everyone sketch their own art kit, just for something a bit personal. All a lot of fun.
So beautiful and hot, and first detour – no not coffee – was a Speakeasy called Harlem. One of the girls had mentioned this idea, but didn’t realise there was one right here on the Corso.
Not many had heard of it, and of course at midday it was hardly open but after the sun sets you can push open the black door and enter a glorious ‘other’ world of cool people sipping cocktails and sharing tasting plates of intriguing food to the sound of wonderful music.
Anyway, off we went to the Manly Walk Arcade where we would sketch a couple of choices. This arcade has recently seen some new life and I’ve been waiting for it’s completion.
On the corner we have a new diner – Mexican style – small with lovely brick and stripped back wood interior etc. That was a great choice for us.
Robbie did a cute one of Rambling Rose over the way, as she sat inside ChicaBonita, with a Mexican platter and a perfect little view of the flower shop.
All the sketches were so much a little bit of Mexico, with the classic bright colour detail.
So – what will Friday class do with the same spot?

Friday September 21. ’12
Sketch your own art materials was again a fun subject. As you can see some included their caffein container, pencil holders and sharpeners while others were more minimalist.
Hurried to ChicaBonita as a drop of rain looked likely, but didn’t dampen our excitement in arriving to see all those Mexican icons and colours.
Two sketchers decided on Rambling Rose Floral across the arcade and both entirely different.
Others chose small setups or the coloured tiled counter or the wall decor inside ChicaBonita.
This is an excellent wrap up location for our pre -holiday sketch and everyone so enjoyed the ambience and the food.
As we sketched, this amazing bicycle was being wheeled past. Stop we said – we want a pic. So beautiful and such a clever piece of work. It’s part of the Manly Bike Festival this weekend.
One of the girls even returned last night between sketch days.
I think she’s a Mexican food addict. Not difficult here!
So that’s another term flown past and some wonderful sketches achieved. More in Term 4
Oh and a little scribble from me!!
