The second wrinkly textured canvas has been completed. They seem to happening more easily now that I have some ideas in my head about the style I want. Definitely liking the French influence as well as creating a view into the painting. The two look quite good together too. Yellow Daisies and Blue Anenomes. Still [...]

A little bit French. But of course. If you think you’ve seen this painting from me before – well you have – and you haven’t! This is a textured canvas I’d created when I first had a go at some mixed media acrylics awhile back. Since then it’s probably had at least 5 paintings on [...]

‘Tropical Manly’ is the last one to be completed before the exhibition Opening on Saturday. I have hung the groups in their varying styles, which I prefer, rather than mixing them all around. Because I have location sketches, Watercolours, decorative Acrylics and major acrylics – they look best if grouped sort of together. Other artists [...]

There is a time late in the day, when the sun goes behind the clouds and the moon is pale in the sky – but it isn’t dark yet! The sky is filled with pink, peach, lavender, cream, gold, and many shades of all of them – absolutely glorious. The sea reflects bits of all [...]

Back to 12 inch square canvases. I love them. Alissa (from Sketchclub) and I met for lunch one glorious day recently, and wandered along to the kiosk at Oceanworld in Manly . As we were chatting I could see these two little ones playing in the shallow water on the beach just below us. Their [...]

While the sea is as rough as it is today, windswept and mono- colour, it’s hard to imagine the glorious night when this view inspired me to paint it. This is my third painting of the balmy night when the moon was full, hanging over the harbour and the glittering reflections coming across to where [...]

I’m still on 12 inch squares. Don’t know when I’ll stop. Maybe never. Maybe tomorrow. Whenever seems right. I still like the watercolour painting done earlier of this view. Although the original is sold, I decided the print is perfect reference for me to base a new acrylic painting on. Firstly I spent a long [...]

Looking from our balcony, beyond the outdoor table setting, I made a sketch looking out to the Sunday morning sailing school in action. They look wonderful, all following the leader, with support boats hovering as they round the markers and sigh with relief that they made it. I’m definitely working my own ‘Fauve’ style now. [...]

As you can see, this is an incredibly textured canvas. I wasn’t happy with the previous painting on it, so gessoed over it and started a new painting. I was keen to do another ‘window’ so worked out a composition which would be busy, and work with all the added texture. I could have called [...]

I’ve always loved the use of French windows and doorways to look beyond, and into a painting. Been ages since I’ve done any but I seem to be headed that way now. This is another of my 12” square canvases which spoke to me. It said ‘Have a go at a familiar local scene, and [...]
