Next Sketch your Cake – June 25 ’13

June 7, 2013 by ErinHill Sketching

If this gorgeous sketch doesn’t inspire you to take up your pens and sketchbook, and hurry to join our next “Sketch your Cake’ High Tea – then I’m amazed. I’m pleased to announce we’ve made a special arrangement with the management at Quarantine Station to hold our next High Tea in one of their beautifully restored function rooms. This will mean sketchers will have a unique experience on this wonderful headland of Sydney, with views all the way to the […]

Murder, al fresco, Milo on the cover

Milo Stars in a Murder Mystery

March 24, 2013 by ErinHill Sketching

Well he does star on the front cover. Take a look. Frances Patton Statham is an American writer of ‘hard to put down’ mystery novels. I had a request early on in the writing of ‘Murder, al fresco’ to use the sketch of Milo the cat gazing across a lily pond, towards a French provincial cottage. Of course Milo gave his permission to be a star. He’s quite a popular cat nowadays. Off went his image and then one day […]

Sketch your Cake- and eat it too

February 27, 2013 by ErinHill Sketching

This was our first 2013 Sketch your Cake High Tea. When someone says ‘I think I’ve died and gone to heaven’, you know everything is close to perfect. This is Gunner’s Barracks’ an old stone building, once the Officer’s Mess, and now so elegantly set up for dining. With views to Sydney harbour you can’t keep your eyes off, until your High Tea is served. For us it’s much more about the ‘look’ to begin with as all this needs to […]

Thurs Dec 6. Cards to celebrate

Angels with Wonky Halos & More

December 8, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

It’s that time of the year again. Time to make our little square Christmas cards from our own sketches. THURSDAY & FRIDAY  DEC 6 & 7 ’12 The lovely thing here is it’s one of the few times we are doing our work to bring some of the joy to others, that we get from creating these tiny original pieces of artwork. They are even cute enough to frame. Generally I say to people that sketching in itself is purely […]

Man on the Tyres

Man on the Tyres Comes Down

August 15, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

During the 2011 Manly Arts Festival, I did a series of local sketches. The Man on the Tyres was one of them I remember this iconic landmark at least 30 years ago. He was there across the road from where my Studio now is, atop about 80 tyres, peering down at us, wearing his top hat and red suit. And we’d all peer back at him, out of the car window as we whizzed down the hill and knew we […]

Knitted by Peruvian ladies helping themselves out of poverty

Helping Women to help themselves

June 19, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

I just adored all the wonderful knitted and woven products we saw on display at a very successful event, to raise funds by selling the handiwork of these Peruvian women. The room was filled with wonderful bags, rugs, wall hangings, clothing, toys and much more. These people are true artists. There was tasty food of the region available, as well as dance displays by some very talented young people. My friend Jan is very involved in organising and co-ordinating these […]

Christmas Eve Moments

Christmas Eve Moments

December 25, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

The Sun is out. Perhaps beginning to go down. It is 6.22pm. What a difference the sunshine makes. This is the day before Christmas. People go at dawn to the Seafood market, as fish and Seafood is one of our revered Christmas Day meals. Of course we still follow tradition and  have Turkey, ham or Roast Pork. I know all will be on offer at our Family lunch tomorrow. We even have plum pudding with all the trimmings. Usually it’s […]

French Village Garden

French Sketches – South of France

October 15, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

This is a collection of my sketches, done in the village of Trausse, South of France. It is here where we spend a week while on our Travel Sketch Tours. Selected sketches are available to order as prints in My Shop. These are sketches done as I observed & enjoyed special moments around the village. The above 2 sketches were done as I stood in the doorway of the Summer Kitchen, looking out to the little garden. the old wisteria, […]

Still life & Sketch Books

Still Life Set-up and Sketch Books

October 4, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

It’s amazing what a few little bits and pieces tumbling over a fence can become when stuck into an old plastic paint pot. The apples I bring for lunch but sometimes forget to eat – and maybe I don’t want to ruin the look now! Some pieces of lavender, a snippet of rosemary, bits of nasturtium leaf, couple of twigs of orange jesamin, and two blush pink geraniums. Now we have a beautiful little still life set-up for sketching. They […]
