Everyone has a Grapefruit Tree

September 2, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

They really do have citrus trees in every garden. Lemons, grapefruit and –  even feijoas. Our family here has the most beautiful grapefruit at the end of the garden, and the fruit rest on the balcony railing on the next level up. Help yourself. Well yes I will thanks. I also make sure to collect all the ones fallen on the ground too. Some people cut them in half and them round each segment to free them from the pith. […]

Getting ready

Travel / Sketch to Auckland

August 27, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

Shouldn’t really be doing this. It’s probably better to be completing the packing, but thought this wouldn’t take a minute! Yesterday was the start of getting things together for the one suitcase Milton and I will take. We’re pretty good at taking just what we need. I always say to myself, never fear – there are shops there! If anything is forgotten that is. We had a fabulous lunch in the afternoon with a delightful couple who are also painters. […]

OceanCare Day, Manly

Sketching at Manly’s OceanCare Day

December 5, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

We were so lucky with the weather. Apparently it was to rain all week and it sort of has been. But not today. The Manly Environment Centre does an annual celebration of the Ocean. So today everyone who cares about our survival was here to show it. I was asked by well known Manly artist Angela van Boxtel, if I would represent the Sydney Sketch Club and draw on location. Angela is organiser of many community Art Events so […]

The Suits at Coffee

The Suits at Coffee

November 12, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Wellington New Zealand. Thursday Nov 4. 10am at Pravda. Just here for a few days to catch up with our gorgeous families – on both sides. AAAahhhh. But first on the agenda were Milton’s meetings. Good planning to drop him off at my coffee time, find a park ( you always can in Wellington) and head for one of my favourite cafes. Pravda on Customhouse Quay. At this point I should say that my little cousin used to […]

The Old Prison, Annecy

The Old Prison, Annecy

June 9, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Located in the Haute-Savoie region of France, Annecy is the French showpiece of lakes and mountain beauty, and there is also a canal. Our painting choices were unlimited, narrow medieval streets, lakes and boating, mountains, the ancient prison with the canal going either side, plus it was Market day. This all brought on a need for a coffee infusion, so of course one can make better decisions about what to paint after that. Today felt like a drawing day. That […]

Amelie's Cafe. Les Deux Moulins

Amelie’s cafe. Les Deux Moulins

May 15, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Just a couple more of Paris which i loved the locations of. This is such a popular cafe in Montmartre so when we decided it was macaron time we were pretty happy to get a seat from where I could draw. Will quickly post the 2nd one and I promise I’ll be doing Italy, which is fantastic I can tell you. More rain but still painting. ©ErinHill2010

From Rue de Sebastopol

From Rue de Sebastopol

May 8, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

This drawing wasn’t quite part of my plan. Not that I actually have one. I had gone in for my French lesson, having got there on time, to find that the tutor had fallen off the metro so wouldn’t be coming. Mmmmm. Had she heard I’d be in the class and fainted! So, not be be put off, I headed for the cafe next door and used my enormous amount of French to order my cafe Creme. I have paid […]

Tommy Rocker's Vegas

Tommy Rocker’s Las Vegas

March 22, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

I was flipping through my sketch book and found some of the sketches I’d been doing in Las Vegas last December 09. I found it so easy to take out the pen and pad in casinos, cafes, bars etc. No one cares, in fact they like being looked at in that town. This particular evening Milton and I felt like taking in some good music. Rock, jazz, blues, all fine, except it was after 1am and the major shows had […]

Bellagio Las Vegas

Quick Notebook Sketch in Vegas

February 28, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Getting back to my fast sketches. This was done while sitting at the French bistro under the Eiffel Tower, directly across the road from Hotel Bellagio in Las Vegas. Is anything real? There was time to do this one  - after ordering my French salad with French fromage, and French baguette came to the table. Where am I again? As with everything in Vegas, the hotel is gynormous, so I may not have got every window and a few floors […]
