Glass, Stone, Ceramics and a Birthday

June 15, 2013 by ErinHill Sketching

THURSDAY JUNE 13’13 Gorgeous day and none of the pouring rain Wednesday’s class got. We are doing old glass & stone jars and bottles, with a tiny lustrous Satsuma porcelain dish tossed in. All collected over the years and all with a story. The colours needed to be soft and translucent and pick up the touches of reflected colour nearby. The stone bottles are solid and glazed, so again needing lights and darks which make them round, without resorting to […]

Pre Christmas Goings-On

December 23, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

Somehow once we hit December, it feels like it’s all over. I do love Christmas time, but it feels like everything has to be squeezed in before the big day. I have learned to take quiet moments and here are a few, in no particular order. Found these funny little chaps at the new Christmas Shop where I bought all the decos we used for Sketch Classes. I just love these fat little characters and I think they’ll take pride […]

Adeline - Conversation de café

Sketch&French – Conversation de Cafe

November 13, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

We started with a delicious coffee, followed by French Waffles……. Our subject today would be around the coffee – un cafe au lait?  un cafe noir? So while Adeline met everyone and introductions were taking place, the coffee orders were taken. We were off to a good start, and soon the sketchbooks were out and the bits and pieces on the table were being sketched. Meantime, as people sketched, the discussion was about ordering the various coffee types so that […]

Cafes Where We Sketch

July 7, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

Sometimes I’ll show you the cafes where we sketch. That part of the weekly classes is what makes our Sketch classes so different from your usual ‘Art lesson’. The cafes where we go are a real reward for us. We all love the Cafe Society thing and having it combined with learning to sketch is such a bonus.   ©ErinHill2012

Sketch your Cake at Bathers' Pavilion

SKETCHyourCAKE (and eat it too)

March 29, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

Now a regular event every second month. It’s a great chance for foodies to learn to sketch fabulous dishes quickly. It’s just 2 hours and because the display is right there in front of us, we will learn very fast how to observe and get it on paper.Somehow knowing you’ll soon be eating that exquisite morsel is a great incentive to sketch at high speed. Bookings Erin 0412 141 223 / erin@erinhill.com.au I’m suggesting watercolour pencils over the black line […]

Warm up sketch at Bacino bar

Thursday. Rain…. but no what’s this!

December 9, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

It was absolutely pouring when I left home – dressed in my raincoat, hoping my hair wouldn’t go curly. Got to Bacino bar where we’d meet up for our Sketch class. They have an outdoor area outside the doors to the cafe, with proper French tables and woven chairs. Very chic! and because that’s where we wanted to sit to get the best sketches, it meant getting a wet bottom if you couldn’t get the seat dry enough. No worries […]

10pm Saturday 31º

Red Sky in the Morning…

February 6, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

…shepherd’s warning. 10 p.m. Saturday night. I am outside on the balcony gazing to the view beyond, breathing in the cooler air.  31º but 10º lower than the day. A crazy moment comes when I decide to do a quick sketch. Low lighting from inside glows enough for me to see the sketch book page. It’s strange not seeing where the colours are in the tiny paint box, or where I’m putting them on the few lines drawn. I decide […]

What Did I love About This Week

December 12, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Amy on God I Love Paris made this one of her subjects this week, and she asked others what they loved about their week. *Snow falling over my Art+travel journal posts, on 30 degree days. *Looking out in the morning to see what the day is like, the morning air and the aroma of summer flowers. Gardenia, Jasmine, Hoya, all blooming at the moment. *Walking Amelie early, along the pathway above the water and looking down at my favourite spot […]

Open Night for Friends and Neighbours

December 9, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

It was a jolly occasion. 6.30 – 8.30 sharp. Pop in, have some crisp Rosé or Pinot Gris from Kira’s family vineyard. Anything you purchase tonight is 10% off. And they did. This was the 3 of us in the Studio saying to the World ‘hello we are here’. Red Olive 2 doors up did the same, which meant we could both take your money – (and give you great value.)  We had such a good time, and […]
