Blue Mts Getaway – March 2013

March 7, 2013 by ErinHill Sketching

A rainy ol’ Sunday. What better thing to do than tootle off to the Blue Mts for a Sketching Getaway. Everyone arrived at Kurrajong Village on the dot of 10, bright eyed and bushy tailed. Bluebox Cafe was very happy to give us a balcony table overlooking the blue and lavender misty Gross Valley. We ordered our essential first caffeine of the day, and a tasty something if we’d missed breakfast. Introductions took place for those who hadn’t met but […]

Coffee and cruising

August 30, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

Being somewhere else means you are out of your usual routine but having your first coffee of the day helps to settle you in. It was gorgeous to catch up with old friends again and there’ll be more of this during the week. Later back at the house I was so taken with this spectacular view of Skytower in the main part of Auckland city. It’s even more so at night when all the lights are glittering. I’m enjoying sketching […]

Mini Sketch Trip : Ettalong, Patonga, Pearl Beach

August 8, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

MINI SKETCH TRIP – DAY 1 – Sunday August 5 ’12 Our 3 day, 2 night Sketch Trip this time was to the Central Coast, about 90 minutes north of Sydney. We decided on Ettalong as our home base, and each day we could go to a different coastal village. Our meeting place was Ferry Road Cafe, to down our first coffee of the day, and think about not thinking about the city we’d escaped from, and immerse ourselves in […]

Exploring Sketching Ettalong

Sketching Ettalong

July 10, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

What remarkable weather they have in Ettalong, Pearl beach and Patonga. I think the perfect blues of the day, the gold of sunset, the greens & yellows of water and shore, seem so different from Sydney. Maybe it just seems more so there. We were exploring in this place on the Central Coast where for 15 summers, a decade ago, we spent so much time. Back then our children learned to ride bikes. No TV or phones, but with board games, […]

The old Iron bed, Trausse

Painted in Southern France

June 18, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Painted on location in Southern France. 300gsm A3 size. The 2 line drawings I showed the other day were the working drawings I did from the doorway of the Summer Kitchen. In the end I decided on the old iron bed with the 2 periwinkle blue doors behind. My heart just soars when I see this perfect little French setting, the sun high and hot in a clear blue sky and happy chirps breaking the silence. So i have finally […]

The Importance of Being from Somewhere Else

June 15, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

This is just fabulous. Here we are being photographed in Chantal’s garden and this appeared in the local paper this week. As I’d said earlier, the idea of Jackie bringing overseas painters to their village is giving the locals a real sense of pride. If this happened in our own backyard it wouldn’t make a ripple at all. So we are almost famous. Left to right – Connie, Glenys, Erin, Karen, Niki, Ellen, Nancy and Jackie ( with Paloma the […]

Bridge over Canal

Sketches from Rhone-Alpes, France

May 23, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Here we are in our next location. Jackie ( French Escapades ) is an amazing organiser and this is the first location she found for us in the Rhone-Alpes. We are staying in a gorgeous old villa, with huge high ceilings, massive old fireplace, creaky stairs and lovely old paintings. Yep, we are very lucky. The setting is high on a hill overlooking the farms and rural life which remains pretty unchanged over the centuries. I did several drawings at […]

Selected Greek Isles Paintings

January 18, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Before I begin- it’s now 2012 and both these paintings are available. These paintings are both from that Greek Isles Isles trip I thought wasn’t that long ago. However, on checking my diary – surprise surprise – I was there in May 2002. I had my last exhibition after that wonderful adventure, so many paintings have been waiting patiently in a drawer for their turn to be shown, Well the wait is almost over. We had 3 weeks around the […]
