Blue Mts Getaway – March 2013

March 7, 2013 by ErinHill Sketching

A rainy ol’ Sunday. What better thing to do than tootle off to the Blue Mts for a Sketching Getaway. Everyone arrived at Kurrajong Village on the dot of 10, bright eyed and bushy tailed. Bluebox Cafe was very happy to give us a balcony table overlooking the blue and lavender misty Gross Valley. We ordered our essential first caffeine of the day, and a tasty something if we’d missed breakfast. Introductions took place for those who hadn’t met but […]

Paperbags & Windmills

February 3, 2013 by ErinHill Sketching

Our first classes for 2013 are off to a flying start after our long summer break. So take a look at what our sketchers achieved this week, including several new people. THURSDAY JAN 31 ’13 Some of our class are still away, so the new kids in school had my full attention. Who would have thought that paperbags, string and scissors would be a sketch. It meant your shapes could be a little taller or wider and it would still look […]

Thurs Nov 15. Croissants, baguettes and coffee

Croissants & Jacarandas

November 17, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

Sketching this week. Nov 15,16,17. This week seems to have a French flavour to it.   Having had our very successful Sketch&French class on Tuesday somehow a little of that has carried on through the week…………… We had the white setting with croissant and gardenia on one table and the more contemporary blue setting with baguette on the other.  Our sketches of the 2 settings look very edible, and definitely catch the mood of the moment. While the Jacarandas are […]

Wood in Architecture, Coffee & Yummy things

August 31, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

Now it’s coming back to me. The most used building material here is wood. Beautiful homes and elegant buildings. All of wood. No termites to munch them up. Milton and I had coffee further along the main road at Dizzengoff Cafe. Right behind Milton’s head was the Polynesian Methodist Church, a lovely old building in wood. It ended up as a sketch amongst the other bits and pieces on the page. Also passed by bright green lawns with little white […]

Hibiscus in lilac mug

Friday August 3rd. Pages, Hibiscus and Trees

August 3, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

It was 8 degrees first thing, but by start of Friday’s class was 18 degrees. A magnificent blue and sunny day. Perfect for what we had planned. For 2 new sketchers, it was good to have a flower still life to try. For others who had a previous class or two up their sleeves,  they could choose flowers or the books. Each of these sketches were a joy, both to themselves and the class. Both groups had to complete sketches […]

Sketching in the Arcade

Thursday July 26th. Arcade Sketching Fruit & Veggies

July 26, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

Thursday’s Class was being challenged today. A fruit and veggie still life, both to be sketched and colour applied in one hour. If you are travelling, (and 2 of the girls are about to), you’d be lucky to even get that long. So this was us, imagining we were in Rome or Athens or Tibet, just sketching something quickly which sums up the feel of where we are. We are off to a local arcade, where we were planning a sketch of a […]

Avenue of Jacarandas

Avenue of Jacarandas

November 10, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

We were lucky to get a Sketch day here in Kirribilli, which is known as one of the most amazing spots to see this street lined on both sides with beautiful jacarandas. A couple of weeks back they would have been even more magnificent, but this was our only chance and despite a little early rain, we did some lovely sketches. We artists are a hardy lot and weather is no deterrent. With the reward of a yummy lunch round […]

Whales in the Bay

Whales in the Bay

October 17, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

Just the usual morning. Get the dogs ready to walk. Get me ready to walk. Off we go. What’s that black shape out in the bay? It’s not a boat, not a bird, not a dolphin. OMG it’s a whale – two actually.  Looks like a big one and baby. Awwwwwww. Cute. Suddenly people stop each other to point them out. Excitement, pointing, smiling. Conversations about which way they’re going, how graceful  they are, did you see them last week […]

Early Evening

Early Evening – or Pale Moon

August 28, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

There is a time late in the day, when the sun goes behind the clouds and the moon is pale in the sky – but it isn’t dark yet! The sky is filled with pink, peach, lavender, cream, gold, and many shades of all of them – absolutely glorious. The sea reflects bits of all that’s above and you know the day is closing. Somehow the pale moon is waiting up there, for it’s turn to come out and shine. […]
