Blue Mts Getaway – March 2013

March 7, 2013 by ErinHill Sketching

A rainy ol’ Sunday. What better thing to do than tootle off to the Blue Mts for a Sketching Getaway. Everyone arrived at Kurrajong Village on the dot of 10, bright eyed and bushy tailed. Bluebox Cafe was very happy to give us a balcony table overlooking the blue and lavender misty Gross Valley. We ordered our essential first caffeine of the day, and a tasty something if we’d missed breakfast. Introductions took place for those who hadn’t met but […]

Early Morning on the Cove

It Must be Christmas…..

December 24, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

It must be Christmas when….. the yachts and launches moor overnight in the Cove….This is the glorious sight I beheld this morning as I sat out to sketch the soft colour with everything almost in silhouette. Earlier in December a few begin to stay over on weekends. On boxing day there will be dozens and for NY eve you could walk across the bay over them and not touch the sea. It must be Christmas when…. we have the biggest […]

Interpolitan Cafe

Water soluble Wax Crayons

June 22, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

What fun these are. I like trying different mediums to see what happens. Did a quick sketch while at Interpolitan in line then applied a few crayons using layers to build intensity where it’s needed, and softly for other places. Next the waterbrush is used – sparingly people. Hold back or you get blaaah. it was warm enough the other day to sit outside and sketch the coffee ordering window. Not today with class though. Nice and warm inside. See […]

When Molly met Harry

When Molly met Harry

May 31, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

Molly is two and a half.  Harry popped out on April 28th, about a month ago. This is their first meeting on that day. The photo came by iphone and we all melted. Then it seemed that possible a sketch could come of it. Not that it’s something I do. Sketch from photos. But the pic was so lovely I decided to have a go. Line sketch with watercolour. I think it worked. Molly was thrilled. Harry slept on. ©ErinHill2012

Easter Saturday Sketch at Botanical Gardens

April 8, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

We decided that the last Saturday of term should be a bit of an outing for everyone one to join in. Luckily the weather was not the usual Easter downpour, but a blue day with plenty of sun. Off we went on the ferry and made our way to the – where else – the cafe. A good meeting point for the others within the Botanical Gardens. This was a great group of enthusiasts and all found a multitude of […]

Boating Club houses Manly

Boating Club Houses

April 6, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

Went to see how close one could get to the yachts moored on the bay. The class would be doing a nautical theme this week as one of the girls is a sailor. I try to pick subjects which the sketchers relate to. We would start with the Manly ferry while it was at the wharf for 10 mins, then do something similar to above. Decided it wasn’t working to go right onto the club houses so stood here by […]

Wedding Sketch

Wedding Sketch

February 22, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

This was my little sketch to go on the programme, so everyone attending the outdoor ceremony would know what was supposed to happen. As you can see our beautiful daughter Nicky and her husband Adrian look a whole lot better than the sketch. But I make no excuses – well not many! I hadn’t seen the dress although I did know what it would look like and the little fantasy head piece and teensy veil. And I knew the bouquets […]

New Year's Day 2012

A Shiny Brand New Year

January 1, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

The sun was streaming through curtains and woke me. 6.15am on the first day of ‘Next Year’. Time to get my ‘wake up’ cuppa tea. Wow, it’s glorious out there. I can hear cicadas and tweety chirpy birds, happy chat from early risers walking off their Christmas pudding, a boat engine as chaps go fishing. Pretty quiet overall. Fills one with happiness. Sketched the early calmness with the dark horizon before everybody started pouring onto the beach. Before the day […]

A Paris Sketch from 2008

December 5, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

Another of some sketches I’d done when staying with Joanna in Paris. We stayed in this tiny 7th floor studio before moving to Beaumarchais the following week, and where we’d be for a month or so. I wasn’t paying much attention to sketching at this time, and did only a few – which I now regret. Instead I concentrated on watercolours which I’d work on most days. I now see sketching as being a most wonderful way to express myself […]
