Temples of Exquisite Food

April 19, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

Part of the pleasure of eating beautiful food, is the surrounds you are in. Atmosphere is a large part of setting of the scene. The colour. The decor.  The table setting. The sounds. The feeling. The mood . The greeting. The view. The aroma. The anticipation. The menu. People arriving. I like being at a table and silently observing what’s going on. Seeing people arrive. Being seated. Their response. How they relate. How they respond when their food arrives. It’s great being […]

Sketch your Cake at Bathers' Pavilion

SKETCHyourCAKE (and eat it too)

March 29, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

Now a regular event every second month. It’s a great chance for foodies to learn to sketch fabulous dishes quickly. It’s just 2 hours and because the display is right there in front of us, we will learn very fast how to observe and get it on paper.Somehow knowing you’ll soon be eating that exquisite morsel is a great incentive to sketch at high speed. Bookings Erin 0412 141 223 / erin@erinhill.com.au I’m suggesting watercolour pencils over the black line […]

As you come upstairs

It’s Up and Hanging

March 2, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

Well it’s done. The paintings are hung. The exhibition is ready. At The Bather’s Pavilion Balmoral Beach. So glad the Opening isn’t till Tuesday night. Time to tweek anything that needs it. I will even arrive refreshed and ready to rock n roll. It rained all day but the paintings were already in the storeroom. Somehow having the best coffee available downstairs means I’m very happy. I admit I had a moment as I carried the last of the paintings […]

Balmoral- Acrylic and Oil Stick

My Feature Sketch

February 16, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

I may well be able to get back to the Studio. Weddings, moving house, a little eye surgery and intermittent  internet, certainly creates a hiccup when one has a major exhibition on the horizon. I did get the line sketch onto the acrylic under painting for the metre square Balmoral feature work however. It’s in the Studio window and seems to be getting a positive response. It’s very strong, very simple, very clear colour. There are only a few smaller […]

Underpainting for major work

For my upcoming Exhibition

January 29, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

I need a very large painting on the main wall as you enter the exhibition. Did I mention my Bather’s Pavilion Exhibition in March & April? Well it’s 2 years since my last one already! So this 1metre square piece will do the honours. Not in it’s present state of course. This is the scrubbed on colour only. Yet to follow when I get a moment – between moving house,  Nic & Adrian’s Fiesta Wedding & Term 1 Sketch Classes […]

Ferries Passing, Balmoral

Ferries Passing, Balmoral

January 11, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

Well this is different. For me anyway. By using a sketch as the reference, which I’d done on location at Balmoral Beach, I decided to block it in using my acrylics straight onto 300gsm Arches Aquarelle. Interesting how you get a slightly illustrative look, because it’s already that way in the sketch. Also has a pastel look, with the soft edges. I’m thinking of doing another in this technique to see if I like it, and if I can do […]

'Waiting for Shakespeare'

Mixed Media Acrylic – Balmoral & French Window

January 7, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

An entirely different work from the previous ‘Intense Colour Sketch’. Again based on a sketch done at Balmoral Beach when sketching one day, this was about 5pm in the afternoon. People were beginning to spread out their picnics and rugs and get out the crisp white wine. Tonight at 8pm sharp would be a performance of a Shakespeare play in the rotunda. This time I prepare an 18 X 24 inch canvas with scrunched paper towels which are then gessoed […]

Picnic at Balmoral

Picnic at Balmoral

February 28, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

Sketch Club was at Balmoral Beach on Saturday. I forgot how busy it gets for Weddings. At one stage there were four brides that I could see, each with their guys in formal gear and their attendants in pink, or lavender and others in black.I saw at least seven all up. I plan to do a sketch with a Wedding as part of it very soon. Tonight there would be a performance of ‘Comedy of Errors‘ by the […]
