Freshly made Madeleines Sketched

Les Madeleines d’ Adeline

May 20, 2013 by ErinHill Sketching

Two sketches today. A few groans but I timed the first one, the French plant holder with geraniums – and everyone was done and dusted in 31 mins! Perfect timing for Adeline to arrive and pop the Madeleines onto a small plate for the 2nd sketch. Again all done and coloured in the time left and all very yummy looking. So of course this stands you in good stead when you are travelling because you CAN sketch quickly. Today Adeline […]

Citrons & gaufres

Citrons, Gaufres et Français

May 6, 2013 by ErinHill Sketching

Today our sketch was the gorgeous bowl of fresh lemons. Lemon or citron seems very much a part of French cuisine. Give me a slice of Tarte Citron and I’m in heaven. Adeline says most of the lemons come from Menton on the Cote d’Azur. Menton – really – and so is Katherine Mansfield’s house ( famous NZ writer) where she spent time writing her wonderful short stories. Who’d have thought! Meantime the sketches were happening and Adeline was whipping up […]

Gardénia blanc et Camelia rose avec du pain de banane

April 29, 2013 by ErinHill Sketching

We had our first Sketch&French class for Term 2 today. What a glorious few weeks of perfect weather we are having. Perfect too for starting another S&F class with a few newcomers to welcome. To make it not too frightening for those who are new to sketching, I always find simple flowers are a lovely way to begin. Your lines will always look like the flower in front of you if you take a moment to really look at it’s shape. […]

From the original sketch

New version of Original French Sketch

April 3, 2013 by ErinHill Sketching

I have a large sketchbook where I try out new ideas. Yesterday I wanted to re sketch some I did in Trausse, South of France on my last visit.  All had been done at high speed and they worked. The original location sketches stay in my book forever, but I will occasionally re sketch using them as reference and this one above is a new one. It’s interesting to compare the two. This one is different from the first one. […]

New Sketch&French Starts Soon

March 28, 2013 by ErinHill Sketching

We have just completed our Term 1 Five week course, and our next one starts on Monday April 29. One of the class members said she loved coming and it was so nice doing something for herself, not the business. Come join the fun. Our class on March19, was essentially on shopping in Paris. We always start with a freshly made tea or coffee just to get in the mood, as we begin our sketches. We had a fabulous silver, […]

Mardi 19 Février: Classe de Français

February 19, 2013 by ErinHill Sketching

It was a busy morning but Adeline had made a very special gluten-free cake for class. We started with a cute bowl and spoon, a milk pot and some apples. (Un bol et cuillère avec des pommes) We do like to start with a tea or coffee, and today with a tasty French cake served with an apple puree. Mmmmm. Now to sketching. A little trickier than last week as we are now introducing elipses and perspective. However I just […]

Two Awards from Two very Inspiring Bloggers

February 10, 2013 by ErinHill Sketching

It is with gratitude that I humbly accept these awards. This was a total surprise and it has taken me awhile to say Thank You. It does of course come with some responsibility, which is to honour the people who awarded these to me, to reveal a few things about myself and to award my choice of other bloggers. I am going to break the rules here and simply say an enormous Thank You to all of those marvellous followers […]
