This one began life as a little sketch I did while sitting on the steps in the sun, at Manly Cove. It’s 2nd life was when the colour was applied and it became a greeting card and print. Third time lucky was the large line & watercolour sketch I did recently. But it’s luck ran [...]

The sun was streaming through curtains and woke me. 6.15am on the first day of ‘Next Year’. Time to get my ‘wake up’ cuppa tea. Wow, it’s glorious out there. I can hear cicadas and tweety chirpy birds, happy chat from early risers walking off their Christmas pudding, a boat engine as chaps go fishing. [...]

I intended to show some sketches from our class visit to a very wet Cockatoo Island, but haven’t had a chance to tidy up the work for you. Luckily my good friend Liz joined us today, and has done a gorgeous posting of this extraordinary location, adding her thoughts as she went. For your interest here’s [...]

I knew there was something not quite complete about ‘Green Shutters 1′. The thing I like about having work hanging in the Studio, is that sometimes you know something needs doing but don’t know what. Everything has been moved around now that the Exhibition is over and sold paintings gone. So it was a chance [...]

Just the usual morning. Get the dogs ready to walk. Get me ready to walk. Off we go. What’s that black shape out in the bay? It’s not a boat, not a bird, not a dolphin. OMG it’s a whale – two actually. Looks like a big one and baby. Awwwwwww. Cute. Suddenly people stop [...]

There is a time late in the day, when the sun goes behind the clouds and the moon is pale in the sky – but it isn’t dark yet! The sky is filled with pink, peach, lavender, cream, gold, and many shades of all of them – absolutely glorious. The sea reflects bits of all [...]

While the sea is as rough as it is today, windswept and mono- colour, it’s hard to imagine the glorious night when this view inspired me to paint it. This is my third painting of the balmy night when the moon was full, hanging over the harbour and the glittering reflections coming across to where [...]

Looking from our balcony, beyond the outdoor table setting, I made a sketch looking out to the Sunday morning sailing school in action. They look wonderful, all following the leader, with support boats hovering as they round the markers and sigh with relief that they made it. I’m definitely working my own ‘Fauve’ style now. [...]

One comment from someone who knows – and I act. Didn’t think I’d do more, but by adding 1 fishing boat, 2 seagulls, 2 yachts, 5 kayaks, and 7 moored yachts I think this little 12 inch square acrylic, is done and dusted. Thanks Jojo. ©ErinHill2011

Another Winter painting. A 24 X 20 inch acrylic on canvas. But wait, you say, nobody swims and surfs in Winter! Well they do here. A most glorious afternoon. Winter can be like that. A perfect Summer day without the humidity. A few people wandering slowly along the sand. Seagulls wading in the stream trickling [...]
