Paperbags & Windmills

February 3, 2013 by ErinHill Sketching

Our first classes for 2013 are off to a flying start after our long summer break. So take a look at what our sketchers achieved this week, including several new people. THURSDAY JAN 31 ’13 Some of our class are still away, so the new kids in school had my full attention. Who would have thought that paperbags, string and scissors would be a sketch. It meant your shapes could be a little taller or wider and it would still look […]

What to wear in 43 degree heat

January 8, 2013 by ErinHill Sketching

This is probably one of NSW’s hottest ever days. We get days like this. This country is of contrasts. Can have floods (not at the moment) fire, yes houses and people being lost right now, heat, yes 43 degrees instead of a cool 33! Violent hot southerly buster late in the day – just blew the whiskey decanter over – hot whiskey anybody? That wind is a nightmare for the firefighters. The 2 dogs ( one being doggysat ) both […]

Tues 14 August. Mannequins or Gum Blossoms

Sketch Classes this Week: Tues14, Thur16, Fri17 August

August 17, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

TUESDAY AUG 14 With one new person and two who are regulars, I offered a gorgeous vase of red gum blossoms which somehow had survived the awful weather we’d had since Friday. The other choice. The mannequin. Oh no! As it turned out 2 people decided on the flowers and one brave sketcher faced her fear of ‘people sketching’. Everyone did a delightful sketch and were happy to move onto Bacino Bar on Manly Corso. We are looking a lot […]

Friday Fruit & Veg Still Life

Friday July 27. Arcade Sketching.

July 28, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

What a gorgeous day for 2 new people to discover the joys of Travel Sketching. Our regulars got to do the veggies with dutch carrots, while the other table was for the people beginning this wonderful journey. Mind you for one ‘veggie sketcher’ this was only her second class, so you can see how quickly she’s picked this up. We used watercolour pencil and waterpen for colouring. Then down the hill to Roycroft Arcade for our ‘Out & About’ part […]

Temples of Exquisite Food

April 19, 2012 by ErinHill Sketching

Part of the pleasure of eating beautiful food, is the surrounds you are in. Atmosphere is a large part of setting of the scene. The colour. The decor.  The table setting. The sounds. The feeling. The mood . The greeting. The view. The aroma. The anticipation. The menu. People arriving. I like being at a table and silently observing what’s going on. Seeing people arrive. Being seated. Their response. How they relate. How they respond when their food arrives. It’s great being […]

Rain Rain Rain on Sketch Club Day

April 16, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

I knew last night when the weather went pear-shaped, that today would be the same. However nothing holds back a dedicated Sketcher. Sure enough you could barely see in front of you. My journey begins with walking to the wharf and catching the Manly Ferry. So wearing my ‘Cougar Print’ hooded raincoat ( thanks Niki from Texas), umbrella, boots and scarf, I battled the wind to get there. Once at Circulat Quay Liz had said she’s be starting the day […]

Birthday Morning

A Birthday with my Breakfast

March 17, 2011 by ErinHill Sketching

How romantic is that! How clever that I didn’t see anything last night. There on the table this morning were the yellow roses, pop-up ‘rose in a box’ card, my favourite Whittaker’s choc , a card from my lovely cousin- and in a tiny box – a little something special. It all looked gorgeous and I felt very special. Somehow a drawing was essential. But gotta go now, I’m busting to eat my bowl of goodies. I will have a […]

Studio Drawings

August 12, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

Today was a Studio day. Sunny and bright and I was keen to do some more on my first acrylic in the style I did of Twin Bridges at Cosi Ponte in Italy. But I’ll show you those next time. I did some little sketches of the new bench with under shelving, plus all the stuff on it and in it. Actually not putting shelves up above the bench on the wall now. I have enough room below. So that […]

My Old Paint Palette

Faithful Paint Palette

July 23, 2010 by ErinHill Sketching

I was using this palette today on a watercolour commission. I have to see if they still make them like this. Glenys gave it to me in 1990. I loved it then and still do. But before It travelled with me recently, I had to tape all round the outside edges, to stop it leaking when I have washes in the lid. Seems to be working so far. You can see the cracks in the pic. I rarely clean the […]
